Christmas Series “Home Alone” — Sermon “Put A Demand On Restoration”

Isolation  Invasion  Restoration

Impact people are committed to living in authentic community.

1. Isolation Was Never The Plan                                                                      2. Isolation is rooted in selfishness                                                                                                             3. Isolation Fosters Deception                                                                          4. Isolation Is Resolved In Jesus

Kevin, in Home Alone, was ready for the robbers invasion. He made a battle plan. Didn’t show any fear.

Ephesians 6:11 “…take your stand against the devil’s schemes”.                                                                                                           “Methodeia”:— to journey behind, to study, craft.

Philippians 1:29 “Don’t be intimidated in any way by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved, even by God himself.”

The Incarnation is the introduction of a cosmic collision of Kingdoms.                                                                                                                    1 John 3:8 “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”

Kevin is believing for restoration. He tells Marley to not settle for a broken relationship with his son. His Mom is working behind the scenes to restore his connection with family.

Matthew 1:21 “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus (The Lord Saves), for He will save His people from their sins.”   Jesus

Habakkuk 1:2, 2:1 “How long, O Lord, must I call for help? But you do not listen!                                 I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint.”

Habakkuk 2:14 “For as the waters fill the sea, the earth will be filled with an awareness of the glory of the Lord.”

We don’t like broken things. Scratch and dent stuff is cheaper because people don’t like broken things.

If people do buy broken things it’s for the purpose of restoring them. We love restoration shows. Celebrate things that get put back together.

We are prewired to expect wholeness.

We don’t like broken things.

We long for things to be right.

We will not settle for less than what God has promised!

As it is in Heaven is our standard!

Genesis 1:2-3 “The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light”

Jeremiah 32:6-7 “But I will most surely heal the wounds of this city and restore it and its people to health. I will show them abundant peace and security. I will restore Judah and Israel and will rebuild them as they were in days of old.”

God comes to a hopeless, lifeless mess and He promises restoration. More than that, He keeps His word.

Jeremiah 33:15-16 “‘In those days and at that time I will cause to grow up to David A Branch of righteousness; He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. … And this is the name by which she will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.’”   Promise of the Messiah, JESUS.

Job 19:25-27 “But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last. And after my body has decayed, yet in my body I will see God! I will see him for myself. Yes, I will see him with my own eyes. I am overwhelmed at the thought!”

Job 42:10 “When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before!”

Zechariah 9:11-12 “As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit. Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.”

Hebrews 6:17-18  “God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind. So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie.”

Mark 5:27-28 “When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, ‘If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.’”

Mark 10:47 “And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’”

God visits you when areas of your life that feel under attack or silent and desolate. He comforts you with His promise to restore. Supernatural intervention! But He isn’t just the promise maker … He’s the promise keeper.
