By: D. Karl Thomas

Public touch invites the Private Kiss … corporate meeting … corporate anointing open heaven

Still in the passion week – A lot happens in this chapter.

Last Supper / New Covenant — Gethsemane — Betrayal of Jesus / Arrest  — Trial Sanhedrin — Peter disowns Jesus —  But it all begins with Party in Jesus name where Judas gets triggered.

Mark 14:9 “Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”     WOW!!!!   She expressed LOVE!!!

“The sweet language of experience is ‘Thou God seest Me’ When the eyes of the soul looking out meet the eyes of God looking in, heaven has begun right here on this earth.” A.W. Tozer  (The Pursuit Of God)

Mark 14:3-11  “And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head. …Other Gospels Matthew 26  anointed head /  John 12  “… anointed His feet wiped with Hair”

But there were some who were indignant among themselves,  (JUDAS) and said, Why was this fragrant oil wasted?  For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii (years wages) and given to the poor.” And they criticized her sharply.     en-brim ah’ om ahee:—  to snort with anger

But Jesus said, ‘Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me.  For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good; but Me you do not have always.

She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial. Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.’    HER DEVOTION IS TIED BY JESUS TO PREACHING THE GOOD NEWS!

Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him to them.  And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. So he sought how he might conveniently betray Him.”

Why This Devotion? Must be a response to healing her brother.   YES BUT NO NO NO!!!

John 12:1-2  “Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead. There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.”

John 11:32, 35 “Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.” … “Jesus wept.”

She worshipped Him instead of defining Him.     Martha had a discussion … Mary at His feet!

Don’t ever let Words and discussion replace Worship and devotion ….  He Is Your Source!!!

Don’t elevate explaining Him over adoring Him!!!!

Luke 10:39, 42   “And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesusfeet and heard His word. …   But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

In a culture where this encounter was impossible for a Woman … SHE COULDN’T SERVE!!!

Mary saw in Jesus an invitation to enjoy HIM touch Him … She saw GRACE personified!!!

Busyness can be artificial significance.  — Bill Johnson

It is so often our activities that obstruct our union with Him.  —  Madame Guyon

The greatest lesson we can embrace from this encounter is that the power of the gospel is manifest in our lives through beholding and not behaving.

Authentic living comes from a place of satisfaction.

An ounce of devotion eclipses tons and tons of striving.

She smelt like him and he smelt like her and her devotion changed the atmosphere.

Extravagant worship annoys religious people.

He is looking for worshippers and not workers.    Any work should flow from Him as your source!

I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen, not only because I see it but because by it, I see everything else.”   C. S. Lewis  (Is Theology Poetry?)

When you really encounter Him everything else makes sense

Romans 12:1  (MESSAGE) “So heres what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.”

(NIV)   Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of Gods mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

EVERYTHING POINTS TO JESUS …. HIS MERCY LOVE AND GRACE …  reasonable response is to devote your live to HIM!!!

Mary had space between her encounters …  Distance between her and the one she adored!!!

BUT THEN!!!!!

Acts 1:14  “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.”     Everlasting Union!!!

Acts 2:4 “And they were all filled [that is, diffused throughout their being] with the Holy Spirit…”

John 14:20  “At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.”

JESUS MAKES HIS HOME IN US …   NO MORE DISTANCE  …  NO STRUGGLE TO SNUGGLE

You Don’t Have To Struggle To Snuggle —  Grace is an Invitation to come and adore Him

BUTTERBALL HOT LINE:—

I defrosted your turkey while bathing the kids … it will be okay right!!!  … In the tub with the kids!!!

I decided to defrost freezer and at the bottom I found a turkey … I beleive its been there for over 10 years …  can I cook it …  If always frozen yes … It won’t taste the best … Oh okay ill donate it to the church!!!       Giving God Left overs!!!

John 121-8  “Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was [a]who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead. 2 There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him. 3 Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.

4 But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simons son, who would betray Him, said, 5 “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for [b]three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” 6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.

INTITLEMENT!!!

7 But Jesus said, Let her alone; [c]she has kept this for the day of My burial. 8 For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.”
