1 John 2:28 – 3:10
The Bible was not written to you but it was written for you.
This was a personal letter written to very specific people 2000 years ago.
Must be held in context.
Jesus totally manifest God. I have fully experienced Him. You can have the same intimacy.
It will fill you with great JOY!!! Come on and join the family!!!
“This is not a prescription for Christian living, this is a description of what happens when you get placed in Christ.”
Zach Sloane
1 John 1:5“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”
Two types of people: 1. In Light 2. In Darkness
Gnosticism:—the teaching that the spirit is entirely good and matter is entirely evil.
Two extremes of this dualism:
1. Ascetic teaching. You escape the evil realm through harsh treatment of your body.
2. Licentious teaching. Matter doesn’t matter.
The Anointing
1 John 2:27 (AMP)“But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction) which you received from Him abides [permanently] in you;”
You are smeared, rubbed pickled in the person and power of Holy Ghost! That’s how you overcome!!!
Acts 10:38 “How God anointedJesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”
1 John 2:1-2“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.”
TEXT: 1 John 2:28 – 1 John 3:10
And now, little children, abide in Him, that [h]when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. 29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of [a]God! Therefore the world does not know [b]us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
1 John 3:1 What We Are “Children of God”
1 John 3:2 What We Shall Be “we shall be like Him”
1 John 3:3 What We Should Be “purifies himself, just as He is pure.”
3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.
7 Little children, let no one deceive you.He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. WHO’S YOUR DADDY!!!
Sin Is Wrong Devil is source of all sin.
Jesus Conquers Devil and Sin Jesus is the source of your victory.
God is my Father He won’t let me continue in sin.
Two types of people: 1. In Light 2. In Darkness
1 Corinthians 15:22“For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.”
One Of Two Natures: 1. In Adam 2. In Christ
Genesis 5:3“And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.”
Nature:— inner self determined by birth. Adamic Nature:— born spiritually dead. Fleshly
John 1:12-13“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
2 Corinthians 5:17“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
Divine Nature:— God like, absolutely new, completely holy, free from sin.
2 Peter 1:3-4“His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness … that through these you may bepartakers of the divine naturehaving escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
When you act outside of the nature of God you are notbehaving like your regenerated self.
That’s when your faithhas to be activated. I am a child of God!!!
Jesus as your advocatecompletely backs you up.
1 Peter 3:18“For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit,”
2 Corinthians 5:21“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Romans 6:23“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Hebrews 2:14“Since, therefore, the children share flesh and blood, he himself likewise shared the same things, so that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,”
Romans 6:14“For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”
Romans 6:17-18“But thanks be to God that you, having once been slaves of sin, have become obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which you were entrusted, and that you, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. “
Two basic views of verse 9
1. Habitual— problem, sin is okay, its habitual sin that is bad NO NO NO!!!
2. Absolute— You are free form sin absolutely. It is never okay. Don’t do it. It is destructive.
“The provision for our salvation originated in the love of God. And since we have experienced the love of the Father, we have no desire to live in sin.” Warren Wiersbe
“The fact that he has been begotten of God excludes the possibility of his committing sin as an expression of his true character, though actual sins may, and do, occur so far as he fails from weakness to realize his true character.” A.E. Brooke
“He could have hardly meant that Christ sins not at all and those who abide in Him sin but not a lot. John’s point is clearly that sin is never an expression of abiding in Christ. When we abide we do not sin at all.”
Bob Wilkin — (Do BornAgain People Sin)
“All he thought about for three straight month prior was falling. It was the first time he ever thought about falling, alway before he thought about nothing but walking the tightrope.” Helen Wallenda — wife of Karl Wallenda
Hebrews 10:2 (b) “For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins.”
Freedom comes from your focus on His finished work and not on trying not to fail.
Hebrews 12:7-8 “If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.”
When you successfully behave outside your Divine Nature you don’t break your fellowship with the Father.
The Father will manifest His love for you by having a personal conversation with you about who you are.
DO YOU HATE SIN … Things that encroach on the manifestation of Divine Nature
