#262 What Not To Wear Series# 9, The Helmet Of Salvation

Ephesians 6:10-13
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities,…” “…against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all,
to stand.”     

wrestle:— (pal’-ay) a contest between two in which each endeavours to throw the other, and which is decided when the victor is able to hold his opponent down with his hand upon his neck.
Romans 16:20 “And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.”

Mankind is to protect (shamar) the eternal purpose of God and to once and for all put the KIBOSH (kabash) on His enemies!!!
In our contending with the devil we have a command to Stand and a command to Wrestle.

Ephesians 6:14-17

“Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all,…”
“…taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;”

Notice the different tense: First three pieces of armour: “Having put on”
Second three pieces of armour:  “Taking up”
The first three are armour that you establish yourself in continually. Second three you take up!              

Ephesians 6:16 (ESV)
“In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;”  “Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one].” (AMP)

1 John 5:4 (ESV)
“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.”
(NLT) “For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.”        

Every flaming missile from the enemy is to get you to stop trusting GOD.
An attack on His character or an accusation concerning your poor performance. When do you need faith in God most? When you screw up.        

Daily application of Water and Oil.
Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom,…”
Ephesians 5:18 Don’t drink too much wine. That cheapens your life. Drink the Spirit of God, huge draughts of him.
Continuously be being filled!              

Lift up a well maintained shield of faith, well oiled and soaked.

Quench every Molotov cocktail of the enemy that would try to attack God’s character, or your position and rights in Him
“…take the helmet of salvation…”       A Helmet Is Important.
It is for Display       It is for Protection      It is for Confidence                    First practice with Helmet!!!
You can lose an arm and still have a life. Lose your head and it’s over.

1 Peter 1:13
“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;”
Loins (Osphus) :— the place where generative, procreative power resides 

Story   Thoughts are real!!!
Every time I go down the isle of dog food section I want to open a can of alpo … Goes to psychiatrist and days why do I feel like this … When did you first feel this way … Been like this ever since I was a puppy 

The mind Is The Battlefield
2 Corinthians 10:4-5  “…weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,”     

Any thought not taken captive can take you captive. Thoughts not taken captive have you captive now.
Captivity (Aichmalotizo) :— To lead away at spear point Obedience
(Hupakoe):— Listen and under, subject to, compliance         

Any bondage is a house of thoughts.     Fear – Anger – Addiction – Lust
The circumstance, behaviour or substance is not your problem. The way you think is the problem.
You decide what you think and what you think shapes your world.           

James 4:7 “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
You have to put every thought to the spear point and bring it under subjection to the mind of Christ.
A spiritual battle … MIND              

Caroline Leaf   “All this thinking activity is real”
“Recent research has shown that there is an “optimism bias” wired into our brains. We seem to be “wired for love”, in other words, we are wired to expect good things for ourselves; we are wired for the positive.”       

“And science is showing that meditating on the elements of Jesus’s teachings rewires healthy new circuits in the brain.”

Romans 1:16-17
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”     

Salvation (Soteria):— deliverance, preservation from danger, safety, health and wholeness.
Salvation is not me getting an addition (something I have to cling to) it is me being born again … New creation … In Christed.       

Romans 5:8-10 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”    
Saved (Sozo) :— save, make whole, heal, keep safe and sound, to rescue from danger or destruction.
Romans 10:13 “For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’”
Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,”            

2 Corinthians 1:10 NCV
“God saved us from these great dangers of death, and he will continue to save us. We have put our hope in him, and he will save us again.”        

Salvation Past Present and Future.
I’ve been saved from the penalty of sin. I am being saved from the power of sin. I will be saved from the presence of sin.           

1 John 5:13  “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.”      

John 10:27-30  “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.”  

ENEMY ATTACKS YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR SALVATION
