Galatians Series# 8, Fruit of Spirit (Galatians 5)

Galatians 1:6,7
“I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.”  

Galatians 2:20
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live IN the faith OF the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
Colossians 3:3
“For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

Adding anything to Jesus in order to be accepted by God threatens the very freedom of the church.
Galatians 2:21 “I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.”
Galatians 5:4 “…you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.”

Galatians 5:1  “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

Galatians 5:13 “do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh,…”
Flesh:—(sarx) the soft substance of the living body, which covers the bones and is permeated with blood — MEAT SACK
John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…”        

Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
Only one Person has lived the Christian life perfectly and it wasn’t you. But He lives in you and He is your victory in all those areas where you’re failing.

The Flesh Test:    1. Am I doing what I hate to do?     2. Is this making me wretched and  miserable?
Can’t do life in the Spirit with your own strength. TRUST HIM!
Romans 8:6
“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”

Ezekiel 36:26-27
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.”

Colossians 2:11 (NIV) 2011  “In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ,”
Colossians 2:11 (CEV) “Christ has also taken away your selfish desires, just as circumcision removes flesh from the body.”

Galatian 5:16-26
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[c] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders,[d] drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Christ’s commands cannot be obeyed in our own power.
Paul is not interested in modifying our behaviour.
Fruit produced by the Spirit does not command a performance. Even fleshly goodness is BAD!
If we’re not careful, we can actually use God’s Word to end up expressing our FLESH.

John 15:1-6
15 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away;[a] and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.         

“takes away” (Airo) :— to raise up, elevate, lift up, to raise from the ground, take up,to raise upwards, elevate, to take upon one’s self and carry what has been raised up…
“Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He lifts from dirt …” Elevates,turns your face to Him.

Mark 2:11 “I say to you, arise, take up (Airo) your bed, and go to your house.”
When you have made decision to accept Him you abide in Him. If you are fruitful He will make you more fruitful.   If you are fruitless He will LIFT YOU UP … make you fruitful.

Romans 8:9  “But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.”         

Titus 2:11-14  (NIV) “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,  while we wait for the blessed hope…”

1 John 4:15  “Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.”

1 John 3:6  “Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.”

1 John 3:9  “Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.”

Our imperfections are hidden in His perfection …we carry His sinless DNA. Jesus didn’t sin and He won’t ever sin.
