Galatians Series #7  TRUE LIBERTY

The law says:   Do this.
The gospel says:   Accept this.

“ABBA” :— Daddy … only said of God by those born of the Spirit.
Galatians 4:7 “God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, ‘Abba, Father!’”
Old Covenant — God — Holy — Fear Him — Keep Your Distance
New Covenant — Father — Love — Trust Him — Boldly Approach

John 14:9
“Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”
JESUS revealed the Father!!! 

Old Covenant — You Serve God      New Covenant — God Serves You
If you allow me to serve you … you will be enabled to serve one another.
Mark 10:45  “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
John 15:12 “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

John 13:8
“Peter said to Him, ‘You shall never wash my feet!;Jesus answered him, ‘If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.’”
You must humble your self to the place where you understand it is all JESUS!!!
He is the Author and Finisher of your faith. NO OTHER OPTIONS!!!

Galatians 4:21-30 
“Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? For it is written that Abraham had two sons: … which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants:… from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar…and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is,— but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.”

“…But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted (TO PURSUE IN A HOSTILE MANNER) him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now. Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the bondwoman and her son…”
Where is that in Scripture?  Genesis 21 “Weaning”    Going from milk to solid food … MATURITY 

You can’t be raised by mixture … you will never mature under mixture.
Sarah will be the only influence … Promise … GRACE!!!

When Abraham made the choice to remove the attempt to achieve righteousness through the flesh he stepped into a new place of favour and blessing!
Boldness      Freedom       Taking Inheritance

Galatians 5:1-15
Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free,[a] and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. 2 Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. 3 And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law. 4 You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. 5 For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.
7 You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8 This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you. 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump. 10 I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will have no other mind; but he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he is.
11 And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased. 12 I could wish that those who trouble you would even cut themselves off!  GO ALL THE WAY…
13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”[b] 15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!

Legalism — What’s At Stake?
vs.2 “Christ will profit you nothing”     No benefits of His life flowing in you!!!
vs.3 “debtor to keep the whole law.…”   Slavery to the law
vs.4 “you have fallen from grace.”    Rule keeping separates us from grace
vs.9 “A little leaven leavens the whole lump.”  This will spread violently and contaminate the whole church!!!

Romans 4:4-5
“Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,…”
If I am employed by you I expect to get paid.   Righteousness is a GIFT!!!

Ephesians 2:8
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,”
Romans 5:17
“…those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”

License — Free To Be Selfish
Galatians 5:13 “do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh,…”
Flesh:—(sarx) the soft substance of the living body, which covers the bones and is permeated with blood — MEAT SACK
John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” 

Galatians 5:7  “You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?”
Free to do what I want.  — Free form rules.    Don’t have to attend church … give … live how I want.
My job is sin … His job forgive.

Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
Only one Person has lived the Christian life perfectly and it wasn’t you. But He lives in you and He is your victory in all those areas where you’re failing.

Liberty — Free To Serve
Galatians 5:5-6, 13 “For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.  For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love … but through love serve one another.” 

The law says:   Do this.
The gospel says:   Accept this.
The difference between trying and trusting.
