Acts 1:4-5 “… He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit…”

Luke 24:45 “Then He [thoroughly] opened up their minds to understand the Scriptures, …”
A supernatural understanding of the Scriptures was not enough to launch into ministry.
You Must Have DUNAMIS!!!

The first command to the church is not “GO” but “WAIT”.
Luke 24:49 (NLT) “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”

PENTECOST:– Fifty, compound word, a combination of the #5 and, add a zero. 50.
Fifty Days after the feast of Passover.

2 Corinthians 13:14 “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion (koinōnia) of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.”

2 Corinthians 13:14 (Message) “The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you.”
Beautiful progression: Grace of Jesus — Love of the Father — Intimate friendship of Spirit

Genesis 1:2 “And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.”
ruwach:— breathe, wind
Would have been so much easier if the Holy Spirit was named Fred.

Acts 1:8 (KJV) “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:”
pneuma:— breathe, wind

John 3:8 “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

3 Significant Attributes:

1. He Is Unseen
2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
John 20:29 “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

2. He Is Unpredictable
You can’t always tell where the wind is going to go. Golfing … Sailing … Airplane wind socks
Acts 2:2 “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.”
Suddenly the earth quaked … Suddenly light shone …

3. He Is Powerful
I’m okay with Him being powerful! He acts in supernatural ways!
Zechariah 4:6 “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’Says the Lord of hosts.”

Acts 1:5-8 “…you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”…“Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Fa-ther has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power …”

That’s great Jesus we receive power … can you fill us in on some more of the details. … NO NO NO … you don’t need details or charts and graphs you need POWER!!!!

1 Corinthians 4:20 “For the kingdom of God is not in word (Logus) but in power (Dunamis).”

Romans 15:18-19 “…accomplished through me, in word and deed, to make the Gentiles obedient — in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.”

1 Corinthians 2:4 “And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”

Some people are awkward with the Holy Spirit because of ways He has been misrepresented.
The word EVIDENCE has caused some misunderstanding.
I would rather that they used the word BENEFITS.
The Holy Spirit is a promise and a gift.

Power:– {dunamis} inherent power,
Power to produce 5 things: 1. Miracles 2. Morality 3. Money 4. Multiplication 5. Movement

Miracles
Galatians 3:5 “Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, …”
1 Corinthians 12 “…the working of miracles …the same Spirit works all these things…”

Morality
Romans 8:9 “You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you.”
2 Corinthians 3:17 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

Money
Isaiah 60:1-5 “And His glory will be seen upon you … The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you.”

Multiplication
Acts 2:41 “Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.” Loaves and fish Miraculous catch

Movement
John 16:13 “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”
